KONRAD-ADENAUER-STIFTUNG (KAS) INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME 2026 — GERMANY

Important note for your audience: the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung runs its international scholarship through regional offices, and for the 2026 cycle, selection interviews are specifically being conducted through KAS Nairobi — meaning the active focus countries this year are Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. Students from Nigeria, Ghana, and other West African countries are not currently part of an active regional call but may still be able to apply through a different KAS regional office — check the current list of participating countries before applying.

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a major German political foundation linked to Christian-democratic values, supporting democracy, the rule of law, and social market economics worldwide. Its International Scholarship Programme funds bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD study at German universities for talented students who combine strong academics with genuine civic engagement — volunteering, community leadership, or political/social activism in their home country.

Beyond the financial support, KAS scholars join an active community: regular political and cultural seminars, personal academic mentoring, local university groups, and a lifelong international alumni network of more than 3,000 former scholars

What It Covers

• Monthly stipend of €992 for Bachelor’s/Master’s students, or €1,400 for PhD candidates
• Family allowance of €276/month where applicable
• €1,500 per semester toward course-related fees
• Health and long-term care insurance contributions
• Funding duration: up to 2 years for Bachelor’s/Master’s, up to 3 years for PhD (extendable based on academic progress)

Who Can Apply

• International students/doctoral candidates from non-EU countries
• Bachelor’s applicants: must have completed at least the second semester of study at time of application
• Master’s/PhD applicants: must hold a first university degree Strong academic record with curiosity beyond your own field
• German language proficiency at B2 level (e.g. Goethe-Institut certificate)
• Demonstrated regular volunteer involvement — political, social, religious, or cultural — and genuine alignment with the foundation’s democratic and civic values
• Note: human/dental medicine (state examination route) and 3-semester programmes (e.g. some LLM courses) are not eligible

How to Apply

Two application routes: (1) if living in your home region, apply through your local KAS office — for East Africa, this is KAS Nairobi; (2) if already living in Germany, apply via the domestic selection process through the KAS Campus Portal. Required documents include a tabular CV detailing volunteer/social commitment, a motivation letter, certified academic transcripts (German translation if needed), and proof of B2 German proficiency.
