CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS 2027/2028 — UNITED KINGDOM

Chevening is the UK Government’s flagship global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations. Since 1983, it has awarded scholarships to over 60,000 professionals from more than 160 countries, building one of the world’s most influential alumni networks of leaders, policymakers, and changemakers. For African students with leadership potential, a clear career vision, and at least two years of professional experience, Chevening is one of the most prestigious and competitive opportunities available.

Each year, around 1,800 fully funded scholarships are awarded for one-year master’s degrees at any eligible UK university across any subject. Selection is not purely academic — Chevening looks for people who demonstrate leadership in their fields and a concrete plan to make an impact in their home countries after graduation.

What It Covers

• Full tuition fees paid directly to the university
• Monthly living allowance (approximately £1,347–£1,690 depending on location)
• Return economy-class airfare to and from the UK
• Arrival allowance
• Homeward departure allowance
• UK visa application fee covered
• Travel grant to attend Chevening events in the UK

Who Can Apply

• Citizens of Chevening-eligible countries (most African nations qualify — check the official list at Chevening’s portal )
• At least 2,800 hours of work experience after completing an undergraduate degree (roughly two years full-time; part-time, voluntary, and internship hours also count)
• Holding an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK upper-second-class (2:1) honours degree
• Applying for a one-year master’s programme at a UK university
• Must apply to three different eligible UK university courses
• Must commit to returning to their home country for at least two years after the scholarship ends
• Not currently employed by the UK government, British Embassies/High Commissions, or the British Council
