AAUW INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP 2027 — USA

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowships have supported women scholars from around the world since 1917. The programme awards annual fellowships to women who are not US citizens or permanent residents and are pursuing full-time graduate or postgraduate STEM study at an accredited institution in the United States. More than 3,600 women from over 150 countries have received support through this programme.

This fellowship is particularly relevant for African women working in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. AAUW explicitly values applicants from underrepresented countries, first-time international scholars, and those who demonstrate a clear commitment to using their education to create impact for women and girls in their home communities.

Note: As of the current cycle, AAUW International Fellowships are available for STEM disciplines only. Applicants in non-STEM fields should check the official AAUW website for programme updates before the 2027 cycle opens.

Applications for the 2027 cycle are expected to open on August 17, 2026, with a deadline of approximately September 17, 2026.

What It Covers

• $20,000 stipend for master’s or first professional degree.
• $25,000 stipend for doctoral degrees.
• Stipend is paid directly to the fellow in two equal installments at the start and midpoint of the fellowship year.
• Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, housing, food, childcare, and up to 10% for travel to professional conferences.
• Up to five master’s fellowships may be renewed for a second year for applicants maintaining a minimum 3.5 GPA.

Who Can Apply

• Must identify as a woman.
• Must not be a US citizen or permanent resident.
• Pursuing full-time graduate study in a STEM discipline at an accredited US institution.
• Must hold a bachelor’s degree equivalent to a US bachelor’s degree, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for the highest degree earned.
• Must be admitted or enrolled in a master’s or doctoral programme at the time of application.
• Programme must begin on or before September 1, 2027 and be completed no earlier than April 30, 2028.
• Previous national AAUW fellowship or grant recipients are not eligible to reapply.
